Nintendo Switch 2 Introduces Cloud Screenshot Backups and Enhanced Mobile Features

Nintendo has rolled out a significant update to its mobile app, now renamed the Nintendo Switch App, in anticipation of the upcoming Switch 2 console launch on June 5th. This update brings a host of new features designed to streamline the way players capture, store, and share their in-game moments.

Cloud Backup for Screenshots and Videos

One of the most anticipated features is the ability for Switch 2 users to upload screenshots and videos directly to the cloud. The console’s album will now include an Upload to Smart Device option for manual transfers, as well as an automatic upload feature. This ensures that the 100 most recent screenshots and videos are always accessible through the app.

According to Nintendo, files will remain in the cloud for up to 30 days. Users can download these files to their mobile device’s camera roll for permanent storage. If more than 100 screenshots or videos are uploaded, the oldest files will be overwritten. Importantly, this feature requires only a free Nintendo Account, not a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership.

Improved Sharing and Notifications

Previously, sharing screenshots from the original Switch involved scanning a QR code and connecting to a temporary Wi-Fi network—a process many found cumbersome. The new app update simplifies this, making it much easier to transfer and share content across devices.

The app also introduces mobile notifications for GameChat invitations, ensuring players never miss a call to join their friends in-game. Additionally, the Zelda Notes feature is coming for the Switch 2 editions of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. While not yet active, this feature promises achievements, spoken directions to marked map areas, and access to extra Princess Zelda recall memories.

Updates to Nintendo Today App

The Nintendo Today app has also received enhancements. Users can now link the app’s calendar with their personal calendar to keep track of upcoming Nintendo events and game releases. Other improvements include the ability to favorite content, filter news by interest, and zoom in on images for a closer look.

With these updates, Nintendo is making it easier than ever for players to manage and share their gaming experiences, stay connected with friends, and keep up with the latest news and events in the Nintendo universe.
