Nintendo Switch 2 Introduces Effortless Screenshot and Video Uploads via Switch App

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 is set to deliver a long-awaited feature for gamers: seamless uploading of screenshots and videos directly to the official Nintendo Switch app. This enhancement promises to make saving and sharing in-game moments much more convenient for players.

Automatic Uploads and Storage

According to information revealed by dataminer 'OatmealDome', the Switch 2 will automatically upload new screenshots and videos to a new Album feature within the Switch app. This means players can quickly access their captured moments on their phones or tablets without the need for cumbersome manual transfers.

The app will store up to 100 files for 30 days. Once this limit is reached, older files will be automatically deleted, so users will need to save any cherished photos or videos before they expire.

How It Works

  • New screenshots and videos are automatically uploaded from the Switch 2 to the Switch app.
  • Up to 100 files are stored for 30 days.
  • Older files are deleted once the storage limit or time period is exceeded.
  • Players can check upload status via the console's Album, Upload Settings, and Upload Status menus.

This system mirrors the approach used by the PlayStation app for PlayStation 5, which also allows automatic storage of game captures.

A Welcome Upgrade for Players

This new feature addresses a common frustration among Nintendo Switch users. Previously, transferring screenshots or videos required scanning a QR code to link the console to a mobile device, or uploading content to social media platforms as a workaround. The streamlined process on the Switch 2 is expected to save time and effort for players who love to capture and share their gaming experiences.

Launch Details

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, priced at $449.99 / £395.99. An official Mario Kart World bundle, which includes a digital copy of the game, will be available for $499.99 / £429.99. Pre-orders are now live in both the UK and US, with retailers like GameStop and Best Buy planning to restock during launch week.

This update is just one of several improvements coming to the Switch 2, and it’s sure to be appreciated by the Nintendo community.
